As a Reiki Practitioner you know that to make your Reiki strong and become a powerful channel for the Reiki healing energy, it is beneficial for you to set a few minutes aside (or longer if possible) every day so that you can take on the benefits of positive healing energy. This helps to keep you balanced, peaceful and enhances your feeling of general wellbeing.
Why give Reiki to your horse every day?
You know that your horse ‘picks up’ on how you are feeling – good or bad – so it makes sense that you put in a little effort to be the best you can be, not only for yourself but for your horse as well. He or she will appreciate that you are in a good place when you visit and if you share the healing your horse will be much more ‘in tune’ with you. The aim is for horse and owner to become ‘one’.
What are the benefits?
There are many benefits in sharing Reiki with your horse – here are just a few:
- it will help to improve your relationship with your horse through improving communication and understanding between you
- it becomes a daily therapy for your horse which your horse will enjoy and look forward to
- it can improve your horse’s behaviour before you ride – setting you both up for an enjoyale time together
- it can help to improve your own riding and self-confidence as you are relaxed, at ease and in balance
When is a good time to share Reiki with your horse?
Ideally, it is best to share the energy with your horse when you are grooming as it can easily be incorporated into the process.
How do I give Reiki when grooming my horse?
There are several ways to work with Reiki when grooming – here is one example:
1. Once you are ready to start grooming, focus on the outcome that you would like with your horse and state your desired outcome to yourself, for example: ‘I intend that we both enjoy this special time together and that we feel calm, relaxed and energised at the end of this Reiki grooming session.’
2. Take a few minutes to merge with the Reiki energy and just be with your horse and feel the energy flowing to both of you.
3. As you start brushing your horse, continue to visualise the Reiki energy merging with your brush and flowing into your horse with every stroke.
4. Continue with the grooming and remain connected to the Reiki energy, noticing the effects on your horse as you progress.
5. When you have finished grooming, disconnect from the Reiki energy remembering to thank your Reiki guides and those who have connected with you.
6. Offer your horse some water as like us, he or she might feel a little thirsty after the session.
How long should the Reiki treatment be?
You will treat for as long as your horse allows. It might be that 10 minutes is as long as your horse will standstill or it could be longer particularly if there is an issue to be dealt with. For example, I have treated horses with arthritis and they have all been happy to stand there for as long as the Reiki continued to flow (for up to 1.5 hours with one horse).
How often should I give Reiki to my horse?
To get good results with your horse, it is best to give Reiki every time you visit, and every time you groom your horse as this will keep them (and you) topped up with positive Reiki energy. Your horse will get used to having Reiki and should respond more quickly as he or she understands how it feels. The regularity of having Reiki treatments will also continue to improve your communication and relationship with your horse. So both parties win!
Can I ride my horse immediately after Reiki?
Like humans, it is always best to let your horse rest after Reiki as the physical body will be responding and rebalancing energies. Often horses are tired after Reiki so it is best to make sure they have water and food available and let them have time to take on board the positive energy and to rest.
One of my equine clients took two days to rebalance after a very long Reiki treatment. After he had ‘recovered’ he had so much energy that his owner thought she had a different horse!
